Complete in Love

On Sept. 10th, 1982, my little sister was born, marking the first happiest day of my life.  My sister and I are nearly seven years apart, and as a big sister, I have always wanted to keep her safe from harm, to teach her everything I knew, and most importantly, to encourage her to find happiness in her life.  As it turned out, I was unable to always protect her from life’s disappointments, and quite frankly, she didn’t really want to know everything I knew, but I am elated to say that she has sought out her true heart’s happiness and found it with her husband Phil.

Tree and I absolutely love our new brother-in-law Phil.  He mirrors my sister’s best qualities and shares her vision in life. Both of them are loyal, funny, easygoing, hardworking honest people who strive to do the right thing in every moment while having fun at the same time.  And they like good wine.

I was very proud to be the Maid-of-Honor for my beautiful sister.  Thank you sister for gifting me that privilege.

The groom with his best man, J.D.

In Plato’s Symposium, Aristophanes gives a speech about the Origin of Love. He explains that in the beginning, we were a different kind of creature, one with two bodies stuck back-to-back, two heads, four arms, and four legs, and we rolled on our hands and feet across the earth with pure abandon, never knowing what love was because we were already content and complete as two souls wrapped up in one. We were so happy that we didn’t even have an interest in the gods, ignoring them, in fact, because we were so immersed in the pleasure of being ourselves. Looking down on us from the top of Mount Olympus, Zeus was angered by our insolence and jealous of our joy.  To teach us a lesson, he cast down bolts of lightning on us happy creatures and tore us right down the middle, creating two separate bodies, each with only one head, two arms, and two legs.  After that fateful moment, we have all been born with a primal ache in our heart, a longing for our other half.  We walk far and wide until we find our soul mate so we can once again roll happily on earth—complete in love, if not in body.

My sister found her soul mate, and I found mine.  This makes me so damn happy!

I am so excited about this new era in our lives. Most people refer to childhood as their happiest days, but I don’t agree.  For me, these are the days. Feeling secure with myself, being madly in love, living the life I’ve always dreamed about, AND knowing that my sister has all of this too? I’m in  heaven.

Congratulations Alexis and Phil!!! We are so

incredibly happy for you both. We love you always!
