Heading Home – Adios USA

Friday I had my last follow-up appointment. The doctor was a little concerned and recommended that I be careful for the next several weeks. Usually he packs the ear with an antibiotic gel for a month after surgery, but in Peru there won’t be a doctor qualified to remove/clean the gel out. So he had to remove mine after a week. That’s another record.

In the end he cleared me to fly so…

We’re heading home to Peru!

Our last week in the US was great. All of my family came to visit, in shifts. We had a wonderful week with my Mom. It was so great to spend time with her.

She’s going to fly down to Peru a month before we’re due and will be there for the birth. Then she’ll stay a couple months after to help us. We are so lucky to have her!

After my Mom left, my brother showed up. Also great to connect with him. I love this guy! During my brother’s visit, my Aunt Debby came, but we don’t have a photo.  🙁

Next up was one of Stevie’s best friends. Reagan flew all the way from Maine. I don’t think they got nearly enough time together, so we’re going to have to find a way to get her to South America.

My Dad and Diane showed up and we had one day of overlapping time with my bro. Super stoked to have the Trujillo boys together at one time…

Then came mother’s day. We had plenty of mothers around to celebrate, including Stevie.

This was exciting. It was her first of many mother’s days to come…

In between all of this, I managed to slip away with Cyndi to watch our friend Drew rip it up in a Manhattan Beach surf comp.

It was hard to be back in Socal and not be able to surf, but it was great to live vicariously…

Watching Drew crush his waves made my day!

Like a pelican… cool wax only… double overhead… at least…

And so it comes to an end. We had an amazing visit to the USA. We have so many people to thank…. so… Thank you.

Especially Cyndi. Your hospitality and love know no bounds. Thank you for everything. We Love you!

We’re ready to transition back to real life.

Part of me is excited, part of me nervous. Life will be changing rapidly for us once we hit the tarmac back in Lima, Peru.

We have a baby coming, and soon. We still have no doctor and no solid birthing plan. We do know what general direction we want to go, but we have a lot of work to do.

Let’s get to it.

    Hi Stevie (and Tree),
This is Suzanne (White) – from Lycee days…long time I know! Congrats on your impending birth! May I recommend some books on natural birth that may help? Any Bradley Method stuff is super helpful…I did it and it is do-able. Best wishes finding a doctor in Peru…you’re both adventurous souls! Being a mom is truly the greatest adventure I’ve embarked on yet. Healthy and happy pregnancy to the both of you!

    • Hey Suzanne!! It’s so great to hear from you!! I love remembering our Lycee days. Your comment brought back a flood of great memories, like swimming ALL DAY in your pool 🙂 We are very interested in natural birthing, so thank you so much for the book recommendations. If you have any other suggestions, let me know. We are currently planning our birth plan…interviewing midwives, doulas and doctors in Peru. It’s been quite the experience, to say the least. Anyway, I hope that you are well. Please stay in touch. You made my day! xoxo.
