Happy Thanksgiving!

I am grateful for so much, not the least of which is for the gift that gratitude itself bestows upon the thankful. Without it, I have felt bereft in the face of plentitude — lonely in loving arms, slighted despite privilege — nothing is ever enough without gratitude.  But with it, I feel a part of something bigger than self, a humility that softens my ego and allows me to acknowledge that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.  I feel happy, satisfied, full of delight. Life is truly such a miracle.  A blessing beyond measure.  So, first and foremost, let me shout from the top of the proverbial mountain that I am so grateful to be alive and sharing this awesome experience with all of you.

Grab your wine, let’s have a toast!!!

I am grateful for….

My beautiful, healthy, sweet daughter, Soleil. You have brought a new depth, intensity, and meaning to my life.

My loving husband, the iron ballast that steadies my boat, the gusty wind that fills my sails.  Baby, you make everything fun.

Angela, Noni, Mama to us both. Thank you for being here for us with your ever constant love and support. You anticipate our every need, give selflessly of your time and energy, and make us believe in ourselves the way only the best of moms can. I am so thankful that we have you in our lives, especially in Sol’s. You are the bodhisattvabuela. xoxo.

My family and friends, you are a balm of tenderness. You flesh out my bones, cry by my side, make me laugh in spite of myself.

Kiki, my amiga for life.  You’ve helped me be my better self, taught me to go where the love is, and walked quietly by my side for nearly a decade now.  You are such a good girl.  Please do me one last favor, I want to be there for you when it’s time for us to part ways. Let me be by your side, stroking your head, looking into your eyes….let me say goodbye.

Mongo–the King of Huanchaco. Thank you for spending a year with us.  I hope you knew how much we loved you, how special you were. You bore witness to the darkest parts of man’s soul, and yet you approached every stranger with your tail wagging, as if you’d been friends forever.  I loved that about you.  And god you were funny, full of mischief and cuddles. My boy.  I love and miss you, so so much. It still hurts to let you go.

My nomad life that takes me to new places, invites new people into my circle, stretches who I am into a braver, more magnanimous, open-minded  and compassionate self.  I can’t wait to hit the road again, to see what gifts tomorrow brings!

Lastly, I am thankful for all of you!! Thank you Sprinter Life readers.  You have made our experience so much richer by allowing us to share it with you. And thank you especially for giving back, for leaving us comments and sharing parts of yourself with us.  I am still so amazed by how cool our online community has become, and it’s all because of you!

Gracias de todo corazon,

-Stevie, Tree and Sol

  31. Wow!! The training is paying off. Look at Sol lifting her head already!!!

  32. Tree – I’m especially grateful to you giving my first grown-up job that introduced me to the love of my life. And my God that child is GORGEOUS! xo

    • Hoop, you’re so welcome. Wish you could have stayed on the job longer. We loved having you. My only regret is that we didn’t introduce you to another grown-up. Sigh… 🙂

Just kidding. WE LOVE YOU TOO BURKE.

      • Time is relative – it’s all about the experiences during that time and I’m not sure I could have packed more in to my time in HR. It felt like 10 years with all the memories and the close bonds that were created in the ODP Frat. You played a massive role in both our lives, and for that we will forever be grateful.

  33. Beautiful post. Thanks for sharing your life and story with us. I have been wanting to do what you all are doing for some time now. I have downsized everything, and am free to go, but have not found a way to support my travels yet, but am working on it. You inspire me, I wish you could hire me. lol

Anyway thanks, and your husband is having way to much fun with that bird.

    • Hey Tonya!! Thanks for leaving us a comment. It’s always nice to hear from you. I’m stoked to hear that you are ‘almost’ ready for take-off! You’ve accomplished one (downsizing, letting go of the ‘stuff’) of the two most crucial things for nomad life. Now I’m rooting for you get the second (finances)one done too. The good news is that once you give up wanton consumerism, which it sounds like you have, it makes it a hell of a lot easier to save money and live on a budget. 2013 is your year. I can feel it 🙂

      • I too believe that 2013 is my year, and I really hope to be out by the spring of the year. You are also a friend on fb so I will keep up with you guys and keep you posted. Give that beautiful little girl a big hug for me. She is a picture of love

  34. How was that turkey dinner?

    • mmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmmmm deeeeelicious!!! That was the first Thanksgiving we’ve had in years!! I could eat turkey dinner every day, but that wouldn’t be very ‘forks over knives’ of me, would it?

  35. Wow! That “sunshine'” of a babe is perfection from the heavens. And agreed, loads to be thankful for if we all stop to reflect and indeed contribute to it in so many small ways.

    • Thanks Mashoud! We’re pretty smitten over our little sunshine 🙂 And you are right, it’s mostly the small things–the cup of coffee shared over great conversation with a dear friend, the delicious dinner your partner made for you just because, the smile from the lady at the grocery store–that are collectively what we should be thankful to receive and reciprocate on a daily basis. It’s really those types of little things that make me happy.

Thanks for commenting. It’s always nice to hear from you.

Tree & Stevie and Little precious baby Soleil, wonderful pictures and it is so nice to see your gathering for Turkey trot or whatever celebration dinner your preparing! It’s nice your mother has been such a positive, helpful person in all your lives. I can see it in your mother’s face what kind of person she is. The way the heart is,the way the face is!!!! (saying from my mother) Hers has radiance and love shining through!♥ I’ve enjoyed Sprinter life every step of the way! Without that believe it or not I wouldn’t have any idea what my second cousins life is all about. So I’m very thankful for that. Kiki just looks like such a sweet dog, I just love that dog. Mongo was such a spitfire and I know you miss him. More adventures ahead and they are not over until the fat lady sings!!!! With God’s blessings!Take Care: Lots of Love: Cathy Alexander
